Q: When you’re planning a gathering at home, what’s the first thing you think about?

A: I start at the front door and imagine the guest journey from there. What they see first, where they naturally gather, how the light changes, and when the table is revealed all help shape the flowers, décor and menu far more meaningfully than choosing each element in isolation.

Q: What’s your favorite way to get people talking?

A: I am a great believer in giving guests something to gather around rather than forcing an icebreaker. A well-positioned bar, live music or even an unexpected installation gives people an immediate reason to talk and engage with the space. The best entertainment should feel part of the evening.

Q: If you had a tight budget, what would you prioritize on the table?

A: I would spend the budget on candlelight and one type of seasonal flower used in abundance. Keep the vessels simple, vary the candle heights, and let repetition create the impact. A table rarely needs lots of different elements to feel special; it just needs one strong idea carried through with confidence.

Q: What makes a gathering truly memorable?

A: A great gathering has its own rhythm. Guests should never feel rushed or left wondering what happens next, but there should still be moments of surprise. When the setting, food, music, and people all come together naturally, the evening takes on a life of its own, and that is what people remember.

Q: What would you tell someone who feels overwhelmed about having people over?

A: Keep the menu simple, prepare as much as possible beforehand, and set the table early. Your guests are coming to spend time with you, not to inspect the house or judge the food, so pour a drink, put on some music and be present. A relaxed host gives everyone else permission to relax, too.

Q: What’s your signature serve?

A: My signature serve would have to be vintage champagne, poured properly chilled and kept wonderfully simple. There is something about opening a special bottle that immediately changes the mood of a gathering and makes even a small dinner feel like an occasion.

Q: What’s your go-to dinner party soundtrack?

A: Musicals always make their way onto my dinner party playlist, alongside Lady Gaga. I like to begin with softer show tunes while everyone settles in, then turn up the energy later with the big theatrical numbers and Gaga favorites once the champagne is flowing.

Q: What’s your favorite party trick?

A: My favorite party trick is the seating plan. At work, I consider Chinese zodiac signs and color personalities to understand how people might bring out the best in one another, and I use the same thinking when planning a gathering to create unexpected pairings and a table with real energy.

Q: What’s the most memorable gathering you’ve hosted, and why?

A: The most memorable gathering I have hosted was the 11th anniversary dinner for Larry Walshe Studios at Collins Music Hall, an underground Brutalist theatre in London. 

The architecture had real strength, so we softened the space with sweeping drapery overhead and lighting that felt intimate yet dramatic. Long curved tables framed a central floral installation, while a gospel choir brought an extraordinary energy to the room. Surrounded by industry friends who have been part of the studio’s journey, we felt it was a very personal celebration of everything we had built together.

Q: Any favorite products or brands you reach for when hosting?

A: I love pieces that make a home feel layered rather than overly styled. House of Hackney cushions bring color and personality, while Soho House pieces always feel relaxed and lived-in. For the table, I often turn to Rebecca Udall for crockery and finishing touches, then add Diptyque or Jo Malone candles to give the room a warm, familiar scent.
